My wife’s front passenger tire went flat a couple weeks ago while sitting in our garage. I filled it back up and monitored the pressure for a few days and it wasn’t leaking. I figured it was some freak thing and just forgot all about it until this weekend my wife left her car out in the driveway and the tire went flat over night. Filled again and it looks to be holding air.

Any ideas?

I think I’ll take it to my mechanic and have him dismount the tire and change the valve stem really have no clue.

One option would be corrosion/oxidation on the bead. Someone put steel clamp on wheel weights on my Focus’ aluminum rims, so I’d get galvanic corrosion around them. After a while, they’d leak when the corrosion got to the bead. When I got my tires replaced, I insisted on stick on weights.

I’m thinking valve stem, or maybe some corrosion along the bead, where it only leaks if she happens to stop on that particular spot?

Valve core. Just replace the guts with a new valve core. You’ll need to deflate/inflate so be close to a compressor.

I had one that would slowly leak over the next 24hrs when you checked the pressure with a gauge.. frustrating but super easy to fix.

But it isn’t slowly leaking. I checked it daily for a week and it was steady.

Valve stem? I had one fail on the Mini. It would hold air until you moved it at which point it would leak.

It is still possible to be the valve core, especially if the car was driven at all to move the wheel around and make it sort of work and then not work. Either way, a pack of those is less than $10 and as long as you have an air compressor (or nearby gas station with one) then you can easily do it yourself. I had the same exact issue with my car a few months ago. It would be full for a week, the next week lose a few PSI, then all of a sudden go flat in a day. It was annoying and I thought that tire was done but it turned out to just be the valve cores not working correctly.

Ok, I’ll pick up some valve cores and try it out.

Yup, clean the bead. My wife’s van had very similar behavior a couple years ago, and that did it.
